Former Lancaster resident, teacher, had childhood Harvard ties
Agnes Mary (Beauvais) Shepard, 75, of Viola, Wis., died June 10, 2013, of congestive heart failure.
Agnes was born July 31, 1937, in Burlington, Vt., and grew up in northern Vermont and Harvard. She lived most of her life in Lancaster, before retiring to Viola, Wis., in 1999. Agnes graduated from Fitchburg State College with a degree in education and was involved in teaching her entire life, starting as a second grade teacher in Lancaster and later working with students with learning disabilities, one-on-one tutoring, and adult education. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd and the Saint Barnabas Episcopal Church in Richland Center, Wis.
Agnes leaves her husband of 51 years, Byron Shepard of Viola, Wis.; three sons, Mark Shepard and his wife Jennifer (Ellms) of Viola, Wis.; Gary Shepard and his wife Sharon of Lancaster; and Raymond Shepard and his wife Daniella of Anchorage, Alaska. She had three grandsons, Erik and Daniel Shepard of Viola, Wis., and Benjamin Shepard of Lancaster, and more than 30 nieces and nephews. Agnes was predeceased by her brother Alfred Beauvais of Franklin, Va.; and is survived by siblings Martin Beauvais of Spokane, Wa., William Beauvais of Canton, N.Y., Phyllis Graham of Wells, Maine, and Catherine Kirwin of New London, N.H.
A service in Agnes’s honor was held July 27, at Saint Barnabas Episcopal Church in Richland Center, Wis.
