Harvard loses a fiscal watchdog

July 12, 2013

News that George McKenna was stepping away from his familiar role as chairman of the four-year-old Capital Planning and Investment Committee and as a 17-year member of the Finance Committee came as a surprise to many in town. Seventeen years is a long-time. By his own account, McKenna contributed more than 6,000 hours of his time to town affairs. He was someone who was diligent and kept his eye on the books—to a fault, some would say. But Harvard is fortunate to have individuals of his stature and experience preparing our budgets and managing our dollars. We join with fellow citizens in thanking George for his service and we wish him well.
