The Bromfield girls tennis team celebrated another outstanding victory earlier this week and will advance to the District 3 Semifinals.
On Monday, June 3, the team beat Hudson 5-0 in a district quarter-finals match, having been rained out of a scheduled Saturday event. Bromfield’s three singles matches were all shutouts; Hudson failed to win a single game against power players Casey Magrath, Lindsay Kerr, and Arpitha Hayes.
First doubles—Rhett Nuenighoff and Kristen Noyes—played a close first set, winning in a tiebreaker. They then moved on to win their second set easily, coming out on top yet again. Second doubles—Rose Leikina and Alena Davis—won their first set but fell behind a bit in their second. They pulled through, however, and finished off with a decisive win.
A tough competitor awaits
Emerging strong as ever after their match against Hudson, Bromfield girls were anticipating a tough match-up in semifinals on Wednesday, when they were to face off against Sutton, the second-ranked team in the district. Bromfield is ranked third. During their regular season, Bromfield lost to Sutton 4-1. “We have to play at the height of our game to have a chance of winning,” captain Arpitha Hayes told the Press. “But we definitely do have a chance.”
