Final results for winning Bromfield teams and athletes

June 21, 2013

Bromfield’s varsity teams had their ups and downs this spring, but as the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association season came to a close, several made it to district and state finals, as previously reported by the Press, and one freshman athlete made it as far as a New England regional championship. Here’s the rest of the story:

Track and field: After qualifying for the June 8 New England High School Outdoor Championships in New Britain, CT, freshman triple-jumper Amy Hunter placed 24th out of 32 entrants with a jump of 34 feet 6.5 inches. Though more than two feet shy of her 36-09.00 jump at All-States, hers was the best of the three other ninth-graders who qualified.

Boys Tennis: Following its narrow 3-2 defeat of Western Division 3 champ Mt. Greylock, the boys tennis team made it to State Division 3 finals this year on June 15 at Clark University for the first time since 2010. Senior Drew Banker won his match, but the team fell 4-1 to defending Division 3 state champion Martha’s Vineyard.

Girls Tennis: After making it to the Central Division 3 semifinals, the third seeded girls tennis team lost to second seed Sutton in a close 3-2 match.

Girls Lacrosse: Finally, not to be overlooked, the girls varsity lacrosse team defeated rival Grafton in the first round of the Central Division 1 playoff, but lost its quarter-final match against third seed Shrewsbury, 20-6, on May 31.
