Deadline approaching to register to vote
The last day to register to vote in the Special State Primary Election on June 25 is Wednesday, June 5. The Town Clerk’s office will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. for new registrations.
Transfer Station stickers available June 1
Transfer Station permit stickers for July 2013 through June 2014 will be available June 1. They can be purchased Monday through Thursday at Town Hall or by sending a self-addressed envelope to Finance Department, 13 Ayer Road, Harvard, MA 01451-1458, Attn: Transfer Station stickers.
Permits purchased by June 30 are $235; from July 1 to July 31, $260; and August 1 and after, $290. Permits for seniors 65 or older before June 30 are $25. Rules, regulations, and more information may be found at www.harvard.ma.us.
Town volunteers needed
For anyone interested in being more involved in the town, now’s the time. In June, the Board of Selectmen will be handling annual appointments to various boards and committees. To apply for an appointed board or committee position, fill out a volunteer application, available at Town Hall or online at the town website, www.harvard.ma.us. The list of volunteer openings is available at www.harvardpress.com and the town website.
Legislators to hold Energy Legislation Summit in Harvard
State Sen. Jamie Eldridge and Rep. Jen Benson will visit Harvard to discuss pending legislation promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency and to gather feedback and ideas from Harvard residents on Tuesday, May 28, at 7 p.m. in Volunteers Hall.
For the last several years, Harvard has been on the forefront of statewide efforts to reduce municipal and residential energy consumption and promote clean energy alternatives for municipal and residential use. Much progress has been made, but obstacles remain, and legislation filed by elected representatives can help Harvard and other communities move forward. with these efforts.
The event is cosponsored by the Harvard Energy Advisory Committee and the League of Women Voters of Harvard.

Assisting Oklahoma victims
This weekend, the Salvation Army will be collecting money earmarked for disaster relief in Oklahoma. Kettles will be at the Harvard Post Office on Saturday and at the Memorial Day parade on Monday.
