It was with some trepidation that we held our annual transfer of intellectual wealth known as the Friends of the Harvard Public Library Book Sale in a new location. So many unknowns. Would the good people of Harvard donate and buy books in the same numbers as before? Would we have the strength to move 20,000 books into Volunteers Hall in short order? Would we run out of munchkins? Our fears were unfounded. The sale at the “new” library was a wonderful success thanks to many people.
It is important to point out that all the book sale profits are returned to the people of Harvard by funding library activities, including children’s programs, Universal Class online courses, Consumer Reports Online, Friends of the Arts performances, museum passes, and a scholarship in honor of a great friend of the library, Dr. Jeff Harris.
First, thanks to Harvard residents who donated to and then bought thousands of books at the sale.
Thanks to Director Mary Wilson and her staff for their cooperation and patience in allowing us to disrupt HPL. Harvard is extremely fortunate to have such a talented and dedicated staff.
Special thanks to our volunteers for the hundreds of hours they spent to run the sale. They gave up Saturdays and weeknights to sort books and work the sale. This year was especially labor intensive.
