Harvard resident, former Emerson Hospital surgeon
Joseph Rollin Barrie, M.D., of Harvard, died suddenly on April 8, 2013. He was 77.
Born Aug. 22, 1935 in Brooklyn, N.Y., Joseph attended Stuyvesant High School, received a bachelor’s degree in science from Yale College, class of 1956, and graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1960.
Joseph completed his residency training at Massachusetts General Hospital and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He served in the US Navy as Lieutenant Commander, Medical Corps, on the U.S.S. Saratoga. Joseph established his medical practice at Emerson Hospital in Concord, where he was an active staff surgeon from 1969 to 2004.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife of thirty-one years, Christine Svenson Pilkington. He was the devoted father of John R. Barrie and John’s wife Caroline E. Barrie of Wellesley, and Susan S. Barrie of Rye, N.H.; and the loving grandfather of James R. Barrie and Catherine J. Barrie.
A memorial gathering for friends and family will be held Sunday, April 28, from noon to 3 p.m. at the home of John and Caroline Barrie at 15 Marvin Road in Wellesley.
