Corrections officer, Model A Ford restorer, former Harvard resident

Daniel J. Poitras, 66, of Nova Scotia, Canada, formerly of Harvard, died unexpectedly on Sunday, Feb. 17, at Aberdeen Regional Hospital, Pictou, Nova Scotia, Canada.
Daniel was born in Lowell on Feb. 21, 1946, a son of the late Alfred W. and Helen J. (Horgan) Poitras, and grew up in Harvard, graduating from Bromfield in 1963. He resided in Littleton, Ayer, Townsend, and Wilton, N.H., before moving to Nova Scotia four years ago.
Daniel leaves his wife of 11 years, Judith A. (Warner) Poitras; a daughter, Jessica Poitras of Townsend; two brothers, William R. Poitras of Shirley and Stephen T. Poitras of Keene, N.H.; a sister, Joanne Warwick of Ayer; and two grandchildren. His brother Edward A. Poitras of Littleton predeceased him.
As a young man, Daniel served in the U.S. Navy. Later, he worked as a corrections officer for the Massachusetts Department of Corrections before retiring in 2010. He was an accomplished carpenter and enjoyed working on and restoring Model A Fords. Most recently, he enjoyed working and living on the eighty-acre farm he had purchased in Nova Scotia.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday, April 9, at St. Theresa’s Church. Burial was in Bellevue Cemetery.
