Father of Harvard woman, WWII veteran

Robert Norman Scott Adamson, 97, of Branford, Conn., formerly of New Canaan, Conn., and father of Ellie Callahan of Warren Ave., Harvard, died peacefully early Saturday morning, Feb. 16, 2013.
Dr. Adamson was born in Cambridge, Mass. Jan. 3, 1916.
A graduate of Brown University and the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Dr. Adamson was a volunteer at the Boys Club of New York Dental Clinic, interned at New York Hospital, Cornell Medical Center, and was an attending dentist at St. Luke’s Hospital. He practiced dentistry in New York for 35 years.
Dr. Adamson served in the U.S. Naval Dental Corps and with the 1st Marine Division in the South Pacific during WWII as Lieutenant Commander for four years.
He was a member of the international dental fraternity Delta Sigma Delta, the New York Academy of Dentistry, the St. Andrews Society of the State of New York, the Burns Society of New York City, the Union League Club of New York City and the International College of Dentists.
Music was Dr. Adamson’s passion. He played the piano beautifully by ear and climbed the bell tower to play the carillon at St. Mark’s Church in New Canaan, Conn, for many years. He also sang in the choir.
Dr. Adamson loved to fly in the helicopter with his daughter, who always said he was her best co-pilot. He leaves his wife of 67 years, Laura Stirling Adamson and his daughter, Ellie Callahan of Harvard.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 23 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church on the Green, 1109 Main St. in Branford, Conn. A private burial with full military honors will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven, Conn..
