Father of Harvard woman, World War II veteran

George Palmateer, 87, died in the early morning hours of Feb. 7, 2013 at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Mass. with his daughter Dr. Susan Palmateer at his side.
George Palmateer was born in Queens, New York, June 26, 1925, the son of Harold and Edith (Veritzan) Palmateer.
During World War II he served with the Pacific Fleet in the United States Navy attaining the rank of Signalman.
George attended Fordham University and later founded Palmateer Associates, an executive recruiting firm located in Manhattan that he ran for 50 years.
George enjoyed sharing the last 12 years of his life in Boxborough with his grandchildren Nissa and Aliza, his daughter Susan, and her husband Paul.
He leaves his wife of 60 years, Helen L. (Tobin) Palmateer; two daughters, Dr. Lauren F. Palmateer of San Francisco, California, Dr. Susan C. Palmateer of Harvard; a brother, Harold Palmateer of Albuquerque, NM; two grandchildren, Nissa Maki and Aliza Maki; and son-in-law Dr. Paul Maki of Harvard.
George was an accomplished trumpet player. He enjoyed playing golf, working in his garden, making model airplanes and working on the grounds surrounding his home.
He also liked watching TV and spending lunchtime at Concord Assisted Living with his wife Helen. His favorite pastime was meeting and talking to people.
George was very proud of his two daughters, Susan and Lauren, who went on to receive Ph.Ds in electrical engineering at Cornell University.
Burial with a full military service is scheduled for the Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery in Winchendon, Mass. Friday, Feb. 22 at 3 p.m.
