Tuesday, Jan. 1
A Warren Ave. resident called at 2:01 a.m. to speak with a fire officer about a carbon monoxide detector going off after a fire in the fireplace was extinguished. The resident was advised to vent the room and leave the fireplace damper open, and to call again if there was a repeat incident. At 7:12 a.m. police responded to the scene of a single-car accident on Hynes Lane, where a car slid off the slippery road. The car, which sustained some front-end damage, was towed. The driver, a Harvard resident, was issued a summons for driving with a suspended license. At 11:27 a.m. an officer stopped a car in front of Hildreth Elementary School for a stop sign violation, and gave the driver a verbal warning. Police responding to a residential alarm on Pinnacle Road at 11:36 a.m. found a door unlocked, but checked the home and found nothing amiss. The house was secured. Police notified the Department of Public Works at 12:42 p.m. that slippery roads around town were in need of treatment. A resident on Under Pin Hill Road called to complain about a barking dog at 10 p.m. Police officers found no dog in the area when they arrived to investigate.
Wednesday, Jan. 2
A caller at the library notified police at 4:45 p.m. that there was the smell of gas in the building. The fire chief checked the building, but found no sign of a gas leak.
Thursday, Jan. 3
At 5:49 a.m. an officer found a disabled car on Ayer Road near Old Shirley Road. The driver was issued a summons for driving with revoked insurance, and the car was towed. A Fairbank Street resident called at 8:37 a.m. to report that her outside motion-detector lights had come on during the night, and although she had dismissed it as unimportant at the time, she discovered footprints outside her home in the morning. Police checked the area but didn’t find anything suspicious. At 10:25 a.m. Harvard police provided coverage at the Bolton station while those officers responded to a structure fire on East End Road in Bolton. A cell-phone caller reported at 1:31 p.m. that two horses were loose on Bolton Road. By the time police arrived, the owners had retrieved their wayward animals. At 5:03 p.m. police responded to a call from a Clinton Shore Drive resident concerning a dispute about a parking space. The person was advised to refer the issue to the neighborhood association.
Friday, Jan. 4

Saturday, Jan. 5
At 12:32 a.m. police responded to a call from a Madigan Lane residence where someone was alleged to have made threats against a visitor to that home. Police found and confiscated a quantity of marijuana that exceeded the legal limit, as well as some alcohol that was allegedly being served to minors. No charges have been filed and no threat currently exists, police say. The case is under investigation. State police called the Harvard station at 12:15 p.m. and asked officers to look for a burgundy Chevy pickup truck that was believed to have exited Interstate 495 in Harvard. The driver allegedly exposed himself to someone while on I-495.
Sunday, Jan. 6
A Harvard resident caught by police speeding through the school zone at 9:56 a.m. was given a verbal warning. At 3:08 p.m. police and medical personnel responded to the scene of a snowmobile accident on Ayer Road at the town line. Police report that the vehicle went into a culvert and say that it did not appear that speed or horseplay were factors in the accident. The two people who were riding the snowmobile were taken to Nashoba Valley Medical Center. At 6:04 p.m. a South Shaker Road resident reported seeing a car pulled over and someone walking around outside of it with a flashlight. The car was gone when police arrived to investigate. At 7:56 p.m. a Harvard officer responded to a request for assistance from Ayer police in locating someone suspected in a robbery. (See story, page 3.)
Monday, Jan. 7
At 1:45 a.m. an officer stopped a car at Prospect Hill and Still River roads for having an expired registration and a defective license plate light. The driver was given a verbal warning. At 6:36 a.m. a caller reported colliding with a deer on Still River Road. There was no damage to the car; the deer did not survive the incident. At 3:03 p.m. police stopped a car on Ayer Road and issued the driver a written warning for speeding in a school zone. The ambulance responded to a call for help from a Deerfoot Trail residence and transported one man to Emerson Hospital.
