We have been reminded once again how fortunate we are to live in a community whose character is defined by the dedication and professionalism of its volunteers and by the kindness of strangers.
On Christmas Day, a number of volunteers left their own homes and families to come to the aid of ours following a traumatic event involving a visiting dog that ran off and fell through the ice in the middle of a pond and was undiscovered for some time. The outcome was a happy one, but not without some scary moments, including the near loss of the young dog and a close brush with hypothermia for the dog’s owners.
We are enormously grateful to the team of firemen and EMTs who provided a level of care that was heart-warming, calming, and comforting for all involved. Thanks also to the neighbors around the pond who came to our aid. We are happy to say that the dog, described on the Animal Emergency Care website as a “Christmas Miracle,” is 100% recovered.
