Edward Fraser Culverhouse passed away on Dec. 13 after a brief illness. He was born Dec. 25, 1922, near Toronto, the son of Margaret (Fraser) and Percy E. Culverhouse. He lived for many years in or near Buffalo and Rochester, N.Y.
Ed was a corporal in the U.S. Army, a World War II veteran, serving as a company clerk in Germany. He graduated from Cornell University in 1949. He worked as an industrial engineer for the Panama Canal Company on the canal from 1949 to 1951.
Ed was a Harvard resident for 39 years, having relocated from Buffalo in 1969. He retired in 1987 from GTE-Sylvania after 30 years in personnel/labor relations.
Ed’s wife, Anita, died in 2003. They had been married 56 years. Ed and Anita were longtime members of the Harvard Congregational Church, where Ed was a deacon and twice served as church treasurer. They both served as state of Massachusetts volunteer ombudsmen for over 20 years. Ed was also an active volunteer for the Harvard Council on Aging, Minuteman Home Care, and Life Care (formerly Littleton House) in Littleton for many years, serving on volunteer boards and as treasurer of Pine Knoll in Lexington.
Ed was active playing tennis and was often seen sailing or kayaking on Bare Hill Pond up until 2006. He had lived at Life Care in Littleton since June 2008. His fiancee, Nancy Dickson, died in 2011.
Ed is survived by his daughter, Julie A. Dickson, of New Hampshire; his son, Brian H. Culverhouse, of New Hampshire; and four grandchildren, Sarah Beth Maliszewski and her husband Kyle, of New Hampshire, Matt W. Dickson, of New Hampshire, and Patric Edward and Hannah Rose Culverhouse, of Massachusetts; as well as relatives in New York state and Wisconsin.

A memorial celebration of his life will be held at the Harvard Congregational Church on Saturday, Jan. 12, at 1 p.m.
