Longtime resident, engineer
Douglas Wiles died Dec. 5 after an illness.
A longtime resident of Harvard, husband of Emma, father to Jeff and Alex, and formerly married to Mary Mackie, Doug is survived by his mother Fran Wiles, brothers Steve and Rick Wiles, sisters Judy Boothby and Christine Sindt, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was a loving father, husband, and friend.
Doug was a talented engineer and manager, retiring due to complications of alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency. He would often say, “There are no bad experiences; only experiences.” His joyful choices in maintaining friendships with fellow members of the Alpha Tau chapter of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity at Rensselaer, raising his sons, exploring near and far with his wife, and living life well despite his health, were proof.
Doug’s life was celebrated Sunday, Dec. 9, by friends and family. Memorial donations may be made to the Alpha-1 Association, 2937 SW 27th Ave., Suite 106, Miami, FL 33133.
