Dr. James S. Scott, 82, of East Lansing, Mich., died at the Sparrow Hospital Hospice House of Michigan on Nov. 17, 2012. His family, friends and colleagues surrounded him.
Dr. Scott was born on Feb. 23, 1930, in Detroit, Mich., to William and Winifred Scott. He was a graduate of the Wayne University School of Medicine class of 1956. Dr. Scott practiced general medicine in DeWitt, Mich., from 1959 until 1976, then in Lansing and the East Lansing area. He was proud to say that he cared for three generations of families in his private practice. He retired in 1993. Dr. Scott’s retirement offered him the time to explore his many passions: traveling, boating, fishing, hunting, playing the guitar, writing music, building structures and toys for his grandchildren, reading, and spending many hours with family and friends. Those that crossed his path will forever remember his sparkling smile and quick-witted sense of humor.
Dr. Scott served his country as a captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He was an Eagle Scout, a member of the Ingham County Medical Society, an FAA Certified Aviation Medical Examiner, and an FAA licensed pilot.
James is survived by Ruth, his wife of 59 years; daughters, Suzanne Burns of Lexington, Ky., Kimberly Bucci, M.D., and her husband Lorenzo Bucci, M.D., of Latrobe, Penn., Jeanne Marie Jarosz and her husband, Joseph A. Jarosz, D.D.S., of Harvard, Mass., son, James Carroll Scott, J.D., and his wife Janet Scott of Cleveland, Ohio.; 11 grandchildren; Sarah, Emily, Hannah, Jacob, Daniel, Madeline, James A., Adelaide, Michael, Scott, and Lance. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, William and son-in-law, Dr. Patrick J. Burns, PhD., husband of Suzanne.
