Holiday Shopping Fundraiser
The Harvard Academy of Dance will host a Holiday Shopping Fundraiser Friday, Nov. 2, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at 285 Ayer Road. The public event will feature vendors from Lia Sophia, Yankee Candle, Biltmore Inspirations, Mary Kay, Silpada, Tastefully Simple, Pampered Chef, and other businesses. A portion of proceeds will go to fund the upcoming competition season of the Harvard Academy of Dance’s performance company, Artistry in Motion.
Rowing Team Raking Fundraiser

Harvard Kids Trail Race
The fifth annual Harvard Kids Trail Race will take place Sunday, Nov. 4, beginning at Bowers Springs conservation Area on Flanagan Road near the Harvard/Bolton town line. The first race will start at 2 p.m. Age groups include under 7 accompanied by a parent/adult, 7 to 8, 9 to 10, 11 to 12, and 13 to 14, with distances ranging from one to two miles, depending on the age group. The entry fee is $8 per child. Prizes will be awarded for age group winners, and ribbons will be given to all participants. The first 100 registrants will each receive a tee shirt. Parent-Child Craft and Playgroup

Harvard Woman’s Club Meeting
Patty A. Stern, director of Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry in Devens, will be the featured speaker at the Monday, Nov. 5, meeting of the Harvard Woman’s Club. Stern will describe the work of the pantry, which is the focus of the Woman’s Club fundraising this year, and the expanded services it offers to those in need. Siberian Huskies, Sled Dogs
The Harvard Branch Alliance of the Unitarian Universalist Church will hold its next meeting Tuesday, Nov. 6, in the Fellowship Building with guest speaker Katharine Bennett, who, with her husband Alex MacLennan, owns and operates Braeburn Kennels in Windsor, Vermont. The kennels specialize in Siberian huskies as sled dogs. A potluck dinner will start at 6:30 p.m.; the program follows at 7:30 p.m.
Kathleen Cushman to Speak at Parker School
Educator, writer, and former Harvard Post publisher Kathleen Cushman will speak about her current work on student motivation and mastery Thursday, Nov. 8, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Francis W. Parker Charter Essential School at 49 Antietam St. in Devens. In 2001 Cushman co-founded What Kids Can Do with Barbara Cervone, and her work has resulted in nine book collaborations with students, most recently “Fires in the Mind: What Kids Can Tell Us About Motivation and Mastery.” Cushman helped found the Parker School with Ted and Nancy Sizer and other citizens, parents, and teachers, in 1995.
Healing Sound Journey
The Virginia Thurston Healing Garden will sponsor a Healing Sound Journey Thursday, Nov. 8, from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with Usai Reiki master Janine Sousa. Fair Trade Fair
The annual Fair Trade Fair will be held Sunday, Nov. 18, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Fellowship Building on Elm Street. Certified fair trade vendors from around the world will sell items from women in developing countries who use the fair trade prices for their goods or wages to help support their families and educate their children. The fair is free and open to all. It is sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Church of Harvard’s Branch Alliance and its Social Action Committee.
Fanfare Home Concert
Fanfare will present The Armen Donelian Trio Sunday, Nov. 18, at 5:30 p.m. at Fanfare’s next home concert. The trio intends to use the open rehearsal format to explore its forthcoming album, a blend of Armenian roots with deep currents of modern jazz. Glacial Features Exploration Walk
Sudbury Valley Trustees volunteer Bruce Porter will lead a glacial features exploration walk Saturday, Nov. 3, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Gray Reservation in Sudbury. Porter, a physicist and coach for Science Olympiad’s 2013 focus on glaciers, will explain the geophysical events that shaped the land, including the ice-contact formations, eskers, and kettle holes they left behind.
