COA remembers Woodstock
On a rainy weekend in August of 1969, 32 acts performed on an outdoor stage for 500,000 people. What started out as a music and art fair became a pivotal moment in popular music history. Join the Harvard Council on Aging in Groton on Saturday, Aug. 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. as it travels back in time to enjoy the free Summer Concert Series, sponsored by the Groton Main Street Café.
Local bands will perform music by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, the Band, Joan Baez, John Sebastian, the Grateful Dead, and many more at the gazebo behind the Groton Library.

- Friday, Sept. 7. The Council on Aging will take a guided tour of “Ansel Adams—at the Water’s Edge” at the Peabody-Essex Museum in Salem. His photographs of beaches, bays, tidal pools, clouds, and waterfalls create a body of work that is steely and muscular, full of energy and dynamism. The group will also have access to the entire museum for our total cost of $25. The trip will leave Hildreth House at 9 a.m., will have lunch following the tour, and should be back by 3 p.m.
- Thursday, Sept. 20. It’s “Massachusetts Day” at the Big E., the Eastern States Exposition. It’s a New England extravaganza with the Village Museum, competitive animal displays, rides, a daily parade and foods from around the world. It’s the ultimate New England Fair. The group will leave Hildreth House at 8 a.m., and the cost for the admission and van is $25. The rest of the day is up to you.
