Harvard Soccer Club to offer Advanced Development Program
In addition to the in-town soccer program offered this fall, the Harvard Soccer Club is sponsoring a program to provide additional training opportunities for our youngest soccer players (boys and girls in the U6-U8 age groups). The primary focus of the program is technical development, using a structured development curriculum that follows the guidelines established by the U.S. Youth Soccer Association and the Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association. The Advanced Development Program (ADP) is an opportunity to enable our young players to attain a higher level of skills. The ADP is open to all Harvard boys and girls. The program is looking for players that love playing the game in a fun atmosphere, and are highly motivated.
The program will be overseen and coordinated by the Harvard Soccer Club. The trainers for the program will be professionally trained soccer coaches Tom and Aaron from Challenger Sports.
The program runs seven weeks, with practices on Sunday afternoon. U6 enrollment will be limited to 12 players per coach, and U7 and U8 will be limited to 14 players per coach.

In-town soccer sign-up still open
The Harvard Soccer Club in-town fall season registration is still accepting registrations for levels U6, U7, and U8. This program is for children pre-K through second grade, and is open to boys and girls born between Aug. 1, 2004, and Aug. 31, 2008.
The season starts on Sept. 8, and teams are being formed now. For more information and to register, visit www.harvardsoccer.org.
Aug. 17, last day to register to vote
The last day to register to vote at the Aug. 29 Special Town Meeting or to register to vote or change party for the state primary is Friday, Aug. 17. The Town Clerk’s office will be open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Primary absentee ballots available
Absentee ballots for the State Primary on Sept. 6 are now available at the Town Clerk’s office. Any voter who will be out of town during polling hours on the day of the election, or who will be unable to vote in person due to physical disability or religious belief, may request an absentee ballot. The deadline to request an absentee ballot is noon the day before the election. If your ballot needs to be mailed out, allow additional time for mail delivery. The ballot must be received by the Town Clerk before the close of polls on election day. Ballots may not be hand carried out of the office.
Volunteers sought for visitor program to help seniors stay in homes
Nashoba Nursing Service and Hospice/Nashoba Associated Boards of Health have announced a new Volunteer Visitor program to help seniors stay in their own homes. Volunteers will be recruited and trained to encourage and support healthy aging habits, encourage independence, and provide companionship and respite in the home. This new program is made possible through funding received from the Community Foundation of North Central Massachusetts and the Greater Lowell Community Foundation. The first training program for visiting volunteers will be offered this October in Shirley.
