Fruitlands Exhibit: Visceral Murmurs
Fruitlands Museum’s Visceral Murmurs exhibit opened Sunday, Aug. 19, and will run through Oct. 28. Each of the artists—Brian Burris, Scott Erb, and Cynthia Woehrle—has created pieces around the theme of night, with works evoking emotions ranging from the familiar to the unsettling. Scott Erb will host a talk Saturday, Sept. 15, from 1 to 3 p.m.; Burris will speak Saturday, Sept. 22, from 1 to 3 p.m.; and Cynthia Woehrle will talk Sunday, Oct. 7, from 1 to 3 p.m. Guests will have an opportunity to interact with the artists and ask questions about their works and inspirations. Harvard Farmers’ Market

Summer Reading Wrap-up
The library’s summer reading program has ended after several events and lots and lots of reading. Harvard children read for more than 4,500 hours and, along the way, collected prizes and earned tickets to vote for a charity donation. They can visit the library in the beginning of September to find out which charity had the most votes and will be sponsored with a donation from the Friends of the Harvard Public Library.
Eager young readers who read more than 30 hours before Aug. 17 and earned a bookplate may come by the library between Sept. 4 and Oct. 15 to choose the library book in which the bookplate will go. Details will be posted in the Children’s Room.
Observing Nighthawks
Friends of the Oxbow National Wildlife Refuge are participating in the national nighthawk migration survey and a member will be available every evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., weather permitting, through Saturday, Sept. 8, to help volunteer counters identify the birds in flight and learn about their lifestyles. Volunteers will help collect data from an observation post along the Oxbow Refuge fields on Still River Depot Road. Volunteers are welcome at any or all of the evenings. To find out if the survey will take place on a particular night, call organizer and coordinator Don Macfarlane at 978-897-7567. Volunteer counters should bring a chair, binoculars, and a camera. Harvard Cub Scout Registration Night
The Harvard Cub Scouts will be holding a registration/information night for new and returning Cub Scouts and their parents on Thursday, Sept. 6, from 6:45 to 8:30 p.m. in Volunteers Hall at the Harvard Public Library. Early Release Movies at the Library
The Harvard Public Library’s Early Release Movie Series for Bromfield students will begin with movies Thursday, Sept. 6, and Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 1 p.m. Movies are rated PG-13.
Monarch Butterfly Tagging
Friends of the Oxbow National Wildlife Refuge will sponsor a Monarch Butterfly Tagging, a family event, Saturday, Sept. 8, at 3 p.m. at the Oxbow fields toward the end of Still River Depot Road. The tagging is part of the yearly nationwide Monarch Butterfly Survey and the program is for both adults and children. Participants will learn how to catch a monarch butterfly, to put a tag onto one of its wings, and where to look for their caterpillars and other insects. The event will be canceled in case of rain. Scavenger Hunt
The Friends of the Oxbow National Wildlife Refuge Scavenger Hunt on Sunday, Sept. 9, at 2 p.m., will give participants a chance to see how many listed items they can locate and use their cameras to prove it. Small prizes will be awarded to the participants with the highest scores. The Scavenger Hunt will start at the main parking lot at the end of Still River Depot Road and should run about two hours. The hunt will be cancelled in case of rain or extreme heat. Participants should dress for the occasion—long, light-colored pants and good walking shoes—and bring a camera, water, and insect repellent. Tin Tin Under the Stars
Screen on The Green. “The Adventures of Tin Tin,” rated PG, will be shown on a big screen under the stars Friday, August 24, at 8 p.m. on Thayer Field in Lancaster. Admission is $5 and kids under 5 are free. The field is behind the Lancaster Community Center and old elementary school. Proceeds will benefit Thayer Field Foundation. NRWA Willard Brook Hike
The Nashua River Watershed Association will lead free, guided hikes throughout the fall to introduce people to properties in their area where they can walk for exercise. The first September hike will be Saturday, Sept. 8, from 4 to 5 p.m. at Willard Brook State Forest in Ashby. The series of eleven hikes in eleven different communities is part of the associations’s Outdoor Wellness Walking Program. Al Futterman, NRWA’s Land Programs Director, will lead the hikes and provide naturalist observations about what can be seen at each property. The trails have been selected for level grade and ease of walking for the general public. Hikes will take approximately one hour and cover roughly one mile. Indian Hill Music School Open House
Indian Hill Music School’s annual Open House will be Saturday, Sept. 8, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 36 King St. in Littleton. There will be opportunities to participate in musical activities for all ages, including an instrument petting zoo, class demonstrations, and a chance to meet and talk to the faculty.
