Stand-Up Paddling Demonstration
Experience a little bit of ancient Polynesian culture right on Bare Hill Pond. Josh Angulo, a longtime Cape Verde resident and 2009 Professional Windsurfing Association Wave World Champion, will demonstrate Hawaiian-style stand up-paddling boards and paddles from his line, Angulo Designs, Saturday, August 18, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Town Beach.
SUP (stand-up paddleboarding), or in the Hawaiian language “Hoe he’e nalu,” is a new (but very old) water sport that is soaring in popularity. SUP boards resemble surfboards but, unlike surfing, stand -up paddleboarding is very easy to learn. A versatile sport, one can SUP on the open ocean, in harbors, on lakes, rivers or any large body of water, on flat water or in the surf. Many of the boards have options to tie down gear, hold a rod and reel, or even add a sail when the wind picks up.
Boards range in length from 8 feet all the way to 14 feet and beyond. Long paddles, constructed from wood or carbon fiber, are used to propel the boards with a side-to-side stroking rhythm similar to paddling a canoe.

Well Adult Clinic
Nashoba Associated Boards of Health, in conjunction with the Harvard Board of Health, will hold a Well Adult Clinic Tuesday, August 21, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Hildreth House. Summer Reading Wrap-up
The library’s summer reading program has ended after several events and lots and lots of reading. Harvard children read for more than 4,500 hours and, along the way, collected prizes and earned tickets to vote for a charity donation. They can visit the library in the beginning of September to find out which charity had the most votes and will be sponsored with a donation from the Friends of the Harvard Public Library.
Eager young readers who read more than 30 hours beore August 17 and earned a book plate may come by the library between September 4 and October 15 to choose the library book in which the book plate will go. Details will be posted in the Children’s Room.

Tin Tin Under the Stars
Screen on The Green. “The Adventures of Tin Tin,” rated PG, will be shown on a big screen under the stars Friday, August 24, at 8 p.m. on Thayer Field in Lancaster. Admission is $5 and kids under 5 are free. The field is behind the Lancaster Community Center and old elementary school. Proceeds will benefit Thayer Field Foundation.
