Longtime resident, orchardist, 2010 Veteran of the Year

William Glover Doe died peacefully at Life Care Center in Acton on April 26, 2012.

He was born in Boston in 1924, the son of Orlando Cutler and Florence Glover Doe. He attended the Fenn School in Concord, Mass., Kent School in Kent, Conn., and Cornell University, graduating in 1948. He served in the United States Marine Corps in the South Pacific during World War II, and with his father and brother, Whitney, owned and operated Hawbuck Orchards in Harvard, Mass., for many years. He was predeceased by Martha Lynn Doe, his wife of 54 years. At the time of his death, he was married to Lois Gilmore Doe of Harvard. He is survived by his children Lynn Doe Shipway of Bath, Maine; Marianne Doe of Cornwall, Vermont; Thomas Glover Doe of Concord, Mass.; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

In 2010, the town of Harvard honored him as Veteran of the Year for his military service and in recognition of a lifetime of contributions and activity in the Harvard community.

A memorial service will be held at the Congregational Church of Harvard on Thursday June 14 at 1:30 p.m. A reception will follow at the church..

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Bill’s memory to the Fenn School, the Congregational Church in Harvard, or the charity of your choice.
