Joseph P. Andrews, 92, of Bolton Road, died Wednesday, April 18, at his residence after an extended illness.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Mary (Ravey) Andrews.
Andrews was born in Martha’s Vineyard Nov. 20, 1919, a son of the late John and Dorothy Andrews. Prior to moving to Harvard, he lived in Concord for 35 years.
Andrews is survived by his two sons and a daughter-in-law, Joseph P. Andrews Jr., of Londonderry, N.H., and Robert P. and Karen Andrews, of Harvard; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol Lee and Tom Tonge of Harvard, Patricia and Mark Cooper of Harvard; one daughter-in-law, Betsy Andrews of Arlington; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late John Charles Andrews.
He graduated from Northeastern University with a degree in business and joined the Navy. For the next 20 years (1942-1962), Andrews served his country in the U.S. Navy Supply Corps.
During his time in the Navy, he attended the Harvard Graduate School of Business and George Washington University, earning his master’s degree in business. He also taught at Drexel and Temple universities.
After retiring from the service as a Navy Commander, he formed Integral Motor Pump Corp. He was then vice-president of GCA, and president of their subsidiary, Vacuum Industries. He was the director of the International Business Center in Boston. He was then President of Aerovironment in Pasadena, Calif.
At Boston College, he was the senior management counselor of the Small Business Development Center from 1987-2006 and the executive director of the SBDC from 2006-07, as well as a lecturer in the accounting department.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, April 21, at 10 a.m., at Holy Trinity Parish–St. Theresa the Little Flower Church.
