Bargains in the Belfry $5-a-bag sale

Bargains in the Belfry will have a $5-a-bag sale on Feb. 14, after which the shop will close until Feb. 28.

Slightly used spring and summer clothes for men and women will be accepted on consignment starting Feb. 20. They may be left at the Unitarian Universalist Church office. Include your name, phone number, and number of items. Each family is limited 15 items. Bargains in the Belfry asks that you not leave extra items, as space is limited.


Merrimack Valley Artisans seeking members

The Merrimack Valley Artisans is seeking local artists and fine craftspeople who are devoted to their art and who, as members, will be committed to the organization and its mission.

The Merrimack Valley Artisans is a group comprised of about 24 local artists and fine craftspeople. The group meets monthly in Dunstable to discuss issues and concerns common to all of the members in their artistic endeavors. The group also brings in several guest speakers over the course of the year.

The Merrimack Valley Artisans organizes a two-day juried show of members’ works each year in Chelmsford during the third week of October. For more information, visit www.merrimackvalleyartisans.org.

Jury applications are being accepted for 2012 until April 30,. The Merrimack Valley Artisans are especially looking for artists and craftspeople in pottery, glass (stained and/or fused), photography, weaving, wood, and basketry. Acton shops hold benefit for Lowell Humane Society

A special benefit for the Lowell Humane Society will be held in Acton on Thursday, Feb. 16, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Acton Coffee House, CambridgeWear, JoKaren Lingerie, Kitchen Outfitters, and Woolpack will donate based on the day’s revenue. QuickCuts will donate $2 for every haircut. Enterprise Bank and First Rugs will make a cash donation.

From 3 to 6 p.m. at Kitchen Outfitters, Kristi Andrews, owner of The Barkery of Tewksbury, will demonstrate a doggy cookie recipe and offering tips for healthy dog nutrition. In addition, Andrews will bring her special dog treats made for the event that will be sold for $1 each to benefit the Lowell Humane Society.


Hildreth Elementary kindergarten registration

Kindergarten registration for the 2012-13 school year will be held Monday, March 5, through Friday, March 9. Parents of eligible students will receive a mailing with a registration appointment (date and time) as well as an explanation of the screening process and a list of upcoming events. Children must be 5 years old by Sept. 1, 2011, to be eligible. Parents who do not receive a mailing by Feb. 21 should contact the school at 978-456-4145.

Kindergarten orientation night will be held on Thursday, April 5, at 6 p.m. in the Hildreth Elementary School cafeteria for all parents whose children are eligible to enter kindergarten in September 2012. Thursday, April 12, will be the alternate date in the event school is canceled due to snow.

Principal Linda Dwight will give an overview of the school. Kindergarten teachers Barbara Ann Gould, Melissa Niland, Cindy Hansen, and Erin Newbould will describe the kindergarten program, and Christine Reale, guidance counselor and screening coordinator, will explain the screening process. A question and answer period will conclude the evening.


Little League registration

Harvard Little League Baseball and Softball registration is still open. Register online at www.harvardbaseball.org and click the “register online” tab for the 2012 spring season. Harvard Little League is for boys and girls ages 5 to 12 (If your child is 5 by Aug. 1, 2012, he or she is eligible to play). Some late fees may apply. Register today; opening day is not far away.
