Tyler Magoun, an eighth-grade student at Bromfield, won the school-level competition of the National Geographic Bee on Dec. 23. The school-level bee, at which students answered oral questions on geography, was the first round in the 24th annual National Geographic Bee, sponsored by Google.
Earlier in December, Magoun and second-place finisher Caoilin O’Connor won their way into the school-level bee during preliminary classroom competitions. Other participants included sixth-graders Julia Foley, Ethan Graham, Ben Rotker, Max Vanderwerf, and Rory VanDorpe; seventh-graders Kate Connors, Hannah LoChiatto, Natalie O’Leary, Sylvia Ren, and Rainier Yano; and eighth-graders Michael Canning, Katie Erdos, and Tommy Jackovitz.
Magoun and other school winners from around the state will now take a written test. The top scorers from Massachusetts will be eligible to compete in the state bee on March 30.
