USAG issues range-noise bulletin
The U.S. Army Garrison at Devens has issued a notice marking the following military activities that will result in increased noise.
Monday, July 11: Demolitions training, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Tuesday, July 12: MK19 familiarization fire, 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.; demolitions training, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Wednesday, July 13: MK19 familiarization fire, 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.; demolitions training, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Thursday, July 14: MK19 familiarization fire, 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.; demolitions training, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Friday, July 15: MK19 familiarization fire, 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.; demolitions training, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Photo contest accepting submissions
A Wildlife Nature Photo Contest of photographs taken of the Oxbow National Wildlife Refuge between May 1 and July 31 will remain open for submissions until July 31. For more information about the different levels of entry, categories, submission, and other details, visit friendsoftheoxbownwr.org.
Hunting applications available for wildlife refuges
Applications for hunting at Assabet River, Great Meadows and Oxbow National Wildlife Refuges for the 2011–2012 hunt season will be available online July 1 through July 31 at www.easternmapermits.com.
The application fee is $5; the fees for each permit range from $10 to $30. All active military personnel, people 62 years of age and older, and those with a permanent disability receive a 50 percent discount on all permit fees. All applicants must pay the $2 to $3 processing fee for each individual season.
A nonrefundable application fee must be included with the application. There are no fees for anyone age 17 years old or younger. Youth hunters are also exempt from the lottery process, but still need to select each hunt for which he or she is applying. People selected will be notified and at that time will need to send in the appropriate amount of money for each permit. If money is not received within 14 calendar days from the time of notification, the lottery portion of the application will be withdrawn and the next applicant who was in the lottery will be selected. Checks or money orders must be made out to the Kinsail Corporation. Cash will not be accepted. Credit cards will be automatically charged when selection is made.
Applications that are missing any of the required information, including the application or processing fees, will be discarded, as will multiple applications from the same hunter. Applications that are illegible will also be discarded. The lottery will be held by Aug. 5; notifications will be made by Aug. 12.
