At 2:51 a.m. Saturday morning, June 25, luck ran out for Kenneth L. Young Jr., 36, of Leominster, when he failed to negotiate a turn at the intersection of Mass. Ave., Slough Road, and Stow Road. His car ended up stuck at the edge of a small pond. Tire tracks at the scene indicated he had tried to free the car himself, but having no success, he apparently left the area.
Harvard police discovered the car while on routine patrol, and after seeing the degree of damage to the unoccupied car, called the ambulance to the scene. Meanwhile, they began a search of the area for the driver, aided by Boxborough police. They found Young less than half a mile away on Bolton Road. After determining that he did not need medical assistance, they arrested Young and charged him with operating under the influence, operating to endanger, and failure to use care in backing on a state highway (Mass. Ave., Route 111). Young posted bail and was scheduled to appear in Clinton District Court June 27.
