Late-night travelers on Ayer Road found themselves taking the long way home for hours Saturday afternoon and into the evening after police shut down the road. Detective Jack Izzo reported Tuesday that the road was closed around 12:30 p.m. on May 28 when a dump truck hit and sheared off a utility pole near the Appleworks Building. Crews worked all afternoon and into the night to replace the pole and repair the damage; the road was reopened about 1 a.m. The driver, who was injured in the crash and was transported to Nashoba Valley Medical Center for treatment, was cited for failure to stay within marked lanes.
