Our town faces a defining moment on election day, April 5. The combination of dwindling resources and growing needs poses distinct challenges to Harvard over the next few years. Such challenges can hobble otherwise reasonable civic leaders, some who may stubbornly toe their respective party lines, and others who will kowtow to the tide of public opinion. With so much at stake, we need town leaders who can size up the issues, put them into a holistic context, and attack them with all due creativity and elbow grease. Stu Sklar is just such a leader.
Stu’s contributions to our town—as a citizen activist, as a member of the School Committee and as our first representative to the Suburban Coalition—are substantial. Stu has fought for Harvard on Beacon Hill, and has forged strong alliances with state leaders who can help advocate for our interests. More importantly, however, Stu understands and passionately supports the tireless work of Harvard’s volunteer committees, whose members he regards as vital resources and agents for—not adversaries to—the BOS. As a Harvard selectman, Stu Sklar will inject a healthy dose of rationality, a collaborative drive, and a much-needed tone of civility to discussions and decision-making.
