Tuesday, February 1
A caller reported large icicles hanging from a telephone wire near Fairbank Street and Oak Hill Road at 11:17 a.m. Police notified Verizon. The ambulance transported a woman to Nashoba Valley Medical Center from a Harris Lane residence at 12:14 p.m. A Still River Depot Road resident called at 12:47 p.m. to complain that a post office customer had parked behind the car in the caller’s driveway. The person was located and asked to move the car. While swerving to avoid a car parked on the side of Woodside Road, a town plow went off the road. A tow truck was called to winch it out.
Wednesday, February 2
A caller reported that a man was snowblowing snow into the roadway on Pinnacle Road. Police advised the man that doing that was illegal. At 12:37 p.m. a Shaker Road resident reported that a snowplow working at a neighbor’s was plowing snow across the road and damaged the caller’s stone wall. The two parties agreed to work it out themselves. At 12:43 p.m. a Madigan Lane resident called to report that a plow had gotten stuck in the road at the end of his driveway and had subsequently been abandoned. Police contacted the owner, who said he was in the process of arranging to have it moved. A Mass. Ave. resident called at 4:46 p.m. to report that his mailbox had been vandalized. Police told him it was more likely that it had been hit by a plow, and since the Mass. Highway Dept. takes care of plowing that road, he was advised to contact them. At 7:24 p.m. a caller reported that his car had gotten hung up on a Jersey barrier in a shopping plaza on Ayer Road. By the time police arrived, he was able to free the vehicle. There was no damage to the car or the barrier. A Still River Depot Road resident called at 7:54 p.m. to report suspicions about a man walking down the road carrying a flashlight. The man was not in the area when police arrived to investigate.
Thursday, February 3
Someone stopped at the station at 7:15 a.m. seeking advice about some “spam” e-mail. At 9:25 a.m. the Fire Department was called to investigate the smell of gas in a building on Ayer Road. The responding officers detected a faint odor and contacted National Grid to check out the gas service to the building. At 10:02 a.m. an officer on patrol noticed a smell of gas during a motor vehicle stop on Ayer Road, and reported it to National Grid. A caller reported that some horses were loose on Prospect Hill Road. The owner and some friends were able to corral the errant animals. At 4:41 p.m. a Prospect Hill Road resident called to report that someone had plowed a truck full of snow into the driveway. At 6:49 p.m. officers responded to a 911 hangup call and found three children at a Depot Road residence home alone. Police contacted the parents and also notified the Mass. Department of Children and Families. The ambulance transported a woman to Nashoba Valley Medical Center from a Depot Road residence at 7:05 p.m. At 9:59 p.m. a woman reported that while she had been out walking, two men in a red car had flagged her down, saying they were looking for directions to Route 9. The vehicle was not in the area when police arrived to investigate.
Friday, February 4
The ambulance responded to the scene of a rollover accident on Route 2 at 9:53 a.m. and transported two of the six injured people to Leominster Hospital. Devens and Ayer ambulances also responded. At 11:11 a.m. police received a report of a car windshield being smashed on Ayer Road by something that fell from a truck traveling in front of the car. The car was towed; there were no injuries. The case is under investigation. A caller reported at 2:23 p.m. that a car was stuck in the driveway at Hildreth House, but the vehicle had been freed by the time police arrived. At 6:35 p.m. a caller reported that there was a car in the area of Still River and Under Pin Hill roads traveling very slowly. Police located and stopped the vehicle, whose driver told them he was just being careful on the slippery roads. At 7:16 p.m. a Myrick Lane resident reported that a man had come to the front door and then walked away without knocking, and said that he drove away in a large truck. Police determined it was a UPS driver.
Saturday, February 5
A caller on Old Boston Turnpike called at 9:17 a.m. to report that a hazardous snowbank was blocking the view at an intersection. Police notified the Department of Public Works. A Littleton Road resident called at 9:20 a.m. expressing concerns about a neighbor’s roof, which he said looked bowed. The responding officer did not see anything wrong with the roof. At 1:54 p.m. a caller reported that there was a car traveling “all over the road” near Mass. Ave. and Pond Road. Police did not locate the vehicle. At 9:34 p.m. Boxborough police requested the assistance of the Harvard ambulance at an accident on Interstate 495. Two people were taken to a Worcester hospital. At 10:01 p.m. a caller reported that her car was stuck on Woodchuck Hill Road. A DPW truck was in the area and sanded around her car, after which she went on her way. Police stopped to investigate a disabled car on Ayer Road and ordered the vehicle towed after discovering that the plates had been revoked.
Sunday, February 6
The Fire Department responded to a call from a business on Ayer Road saying that a portion of the roof on the Appleworks building had caved in. Officers found a rectangular hole, where there had once been solar panels. The building inspector was called to evaluate the situation and subsequently condemned the building. National Grid was called to cut power to the building. A man was taken to Leominster Hospital from an Ayer Road address at 8:28 a.m. The Fire Department was called to assist with removing snow from the roof of a Stow Road home at 10:50 a.m. At 12:58 p.m. the ambulance was called to assist at the scene of a single-car accident on Route 2, where a car went off the road into a guard rail. The driver refused transportation to the hospital. At 2:42 p.m. the ambulance took a man to Emerson Hospital from an Ayer Road residence. At 6:23 p.m. someone stopped at the station asking for advice on what to do if guests at a house refused to leave.
Monday, February 7
One person was taken by ambulance to the hospital from a St. John Lane residence at 12:32 a.m. At 4:02 p.m. a Tahanto Trail resident called to speak with an officer about her daughter’s car being hit at Bromfield. At 7:52 p.m. a caller reported that a deer was down in the roadway on Park Lane. The animal made its escape while police were en route and was gone when they arrived. A Sherry Road resident called at 8:32 p.m. with concerns about a loud noise she heard in her house. She thought the roof may have collapsed. However, the responding officer found nothing amiss and speculated that what she heard may have been snow falling off the roof. Fire officers responded to the report of a possible chimney fire on Haskell Lane at 8:40 p.m., but found no fire.
