Kronauer, Toll, and Foster will compete at state level

February 18, 2011

The Bromfield boys indoor track team ended its season one win shy of a league championship title this year. But although most runners are finished for the season, Nick Kronauer, Ellis Toll, and Roniel Foster will go on to compete at states against the best Massachusetts has to offer.

Kronauer, a Bromfield junior, earned 58.5 points this year, more than any other runner on the Bromfield boys track team. His 1-mile personal record of 4 minutes, 29.95 seconds is the current school record. As team captain, Kronauer feels the best way to motivate his fellow runners is through example. In a recent interview he told the Press, “Before you race, you’ve got to look at all the situations positively, even if you don’t know how well you’ll do. You just have to go out and push yourself to your limits.”

Although running is an important part of Kronauer’s life, he still believes in a strong academic foundation. “There is always a battle between school work and sports,” he said. “Both are very important, so I try to keep them balanced even though it can prove very difficult at times.”

Boys coach David Boisvert says of Kronauer, “Nick is one of the best runners I’ve coached. He tries his hardest at practices, which leads to good results at the meets. I’m very happy that all his hard work paid off. He’s only a junior, and still has the spring season and senior year to beat the school record again.”

Bromfield junior Toll is also a team captain and has earned a total of 49 points this season. Toll is a long-distance runner, relying on his tough endurance and agility to win races. Toll said, “For practice, I just follow Coach Boisvert’s instructions, which ends up being around five to six miles a day. Sometimes it can be difficult, but it seems to all pay off. However, practicing on my own has helped a lot too… It has always been a pain that the Bromfield girls have always been better than us as a team. Personally, the girls’ success motivates me to try harder.” Toll’s main event is the 2-mile, with a personal record of 10 minutes, 17 seconds.

Toll feels that running is just a part of his life. “I do it because it just feels natural” said Toll, “It’s something I was born to do.”

Foster, a sophomore, earned a total of 46.25 points during this season. His third-place position puts him far above his fellow sophomore runners. As a sprinter, speed is Foster’s strongest asset. Although Foster is Bromfield’s quickest sprinter, he missed the states qualifying time for the 55-meter dash by .1 second. Foster said, “I’m happy that I was able to qualify for states on long-jump. However, I am a little disappointed that I barely missed the 55-meter time! It’s all about the start, and I’ll learn how to perfect mine this spring season.” Foster has a personal record of 6.9 seconds for the 55-meter dash, and 19 feet for the long-jump. He is 7 inches away from breaking the school record.

Foster says he finds motivation in his fellow teammates. They constantly push him to try harder, which ultimately results in better performances at the meets. “My friend Dan [Colony] helps me out a lot. He is always there to motivate me, and I’m there to help him,” he said.

Boisvert acknowledges the achievements of the three, but adds, “Although these boys are a strong asset to our team, track is just as much a team effort as any other sport. Everybody that places second or third still contributes a great number of points. We couldn’t have won nearly as many meets this season without the help of each and every Trojan.”

State competition will be held Sunday, Feb 20.
