The Bromfield girls indoor track team came home Sunday with the runner-up trophy from the Massachusetts Division IV State Indoor championships, having earned second place against all Massachusetts small schools. The team scored 38 points to trail the Old Rochester-Matttapoiset team that won with 40 points.
“Typical of all of these Massachusetts indoor meets, it was a nail-biter up until the final event, the 4×400 relay, which the Bromfield team won for the third straight year,” said Coach Ray Dunn. “For Kim West and Mimi Narbonne, it was the third consecutive state championship win on this relay team, which is an outstanding accomplishment for these Bromfield runners.” Runners on the 4×400 team included Sydney Durand, Alexia Lipman, West, and Narbonne.
Narbonne repeated as the Division IV state champion in the 600-meter run and freshman Alexia Lipman was the decisive winner in the 1,000 meter. “Alexia did an outstanding job, taking the lead on the first lap of the 1,000 and running away from the rest of the field in the race,” said Dunn.
Bromfield had four runners in the 1,000, with Sophia Collins, Margaret Kibbler, and Sydney Durand placing 14th, 19th, and 26th, respectively.
Bromfield senior Kim West was seventh in the 300 meter, and sophomore Moriah Arnold placed sixth in the 55-meter hurdles to round out the team’s point scoring.
In the 1-mile run Alyssa Swindells placed ninth and Emma Rothkopf was 15th overall.
The 4×400 team plus individual winners Narbonne and Lipman will go on to compete next week in the All State championships at the Reggie Lewis track center.
