Longtime Harvard Highway Department employee
James Burrington, 58, of Lancaster, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, in Clinton Hospital, after being stricken ill at home.
Jim was born in Brattleboro, Vt., son of the late Oliver L. Burrington. In 1963, the family relocated to Lancaster. He was a graduate of South Lancaster Academy, Class of 1970, and attended Atlantic Union College.
For 27 years until the time of his death, Jim worked for the town of Harvard in the Highway Department.
He was a longtime member of the South Lancaster Village Church of Seventh Day Adventists. A talented softball player, Jim played for many area teams, including the Hawks All Star Team, as its first-baseman, and held the title of “homerun king.”
An avid reader, he also enjoyed making model trucks and camping, especially at Ocean Lakes Camp Ground in Myrtle Beach, S.C., where he had hoped to one day retire. His greatest joy, however, was spending time with friends and family, especially his wife, Francine, and son, AJ.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Francine A. (Martin) Burrington; a son, Andrew James Burrington of Leominster; his mother, Dorothy I. (Groom) Burrington, of Apopka, Fla.; a sister, Cheryl L. Burrington of Leominster; two brothers: Wayne D. Burrington and his wife, Donna, of Derry, N.H., and Daniel L. Burrington and his wife, Marcia, of Apopka, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; and one great-nephew.
Jim’s funeral service was held Tuesday, Feb. 15 in the South Lancaster Village Church. Burial was in Eastwood Cemetery, Lancaster.
