World War II Army nurse, mother of two Harvard women

Catina Hayden, 92, of Harvard, formerly of Melrose, died Feb. 4, 2011. She was a 1st Lt. in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during World War II.

She is survived by her son, George Anderson Hayden III of Texas; her daughters, Catina M. Hayden Barbieri and Elizabeth Claire Hayden of Harvard; Joan Swan of Boston; and Helen Topor of Tewksbury; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and her brother, Anthony Bartoli of Andover.

There will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Feb. 9 in the Incarnation Parish Church, 429 Upham St. in Melrose. Burial will be with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be sent to the Italian Home for Children, 1125 Centre St., Jamaica Plain, MA. 02130.
