Saturday the Bromfield girls indoor track team scored an impressive victory at the District E, Division II track meet in Fitchburg, winning the Central Mass Championships in the small school division.
“The win represents a great team effort,” said Coach Ray Dunn. “The performance of each girl contributed to the victory.”
“The Bromfield girls had two winners—Mimi Narbonne in the 600 and the 4×400 relay team; all the rest of the points came from the second-, third-, fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-place finishes the girls piled up to win by a healthy margin. It was truly an outstanding team effort.”
Bromfield freshman Alexia Lipman placed second in the 300 behind Brittney Hodgerney of Leicester.
In the 1,000, Bromfield senior Sydney Durand and eighth-grader Sophia Collins scored points with their second- and third-place finishes behind winner Julia Berkowicz of Whitinsville Christian.
Also contributing to the Trojans’ victory were Alyssa Swindells, third in the mile; Moriah Arnold, third in the 55 hurdles; Caroline Turnbull, fifth in the high jump; and Emma Rothkopf, sixth in the 2-mile.
“By the time we got to the relays at the end of the meet the girls were exhausted,” said Dunn, “but the victory in the 4×400 and second place finishes in the 4×200 and 4×800 relays gave us the points we needed to seal the victory.”
