Conservation Commission seeks member

The Conservation Commission is seeking an individual to serve as associate member, a one-year appointment.

Composed of seven members serving staggered three-year terms, the Conservation Commission is responsible for administering the Wetland Protect Act (Ch.131 S40) and the Harvard Wetland Protection Bylaw. The commission issues permits for activities in and near wetlands, floodplains, banks, river front areas, beaches, vernal pools, and surface water.

The commission is the official agency charged with the protection of the community’s natural resources and management of town-owned conservation land, currently about 1,650 acres. The commission also advises other town boards and officials on conservation issues that relate to their area of responsibility.

The commission meets on the first and third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m.

Anyone interested in serving as associate member is invited to contact the Land Use Administrator/Conservation Agent Liz Allard by phone at 978-456-4106, ext. 3, or by e-mail at lallard@harvard.ma.us. Candidates can also stop by the office on the second floor of Town Hall during normal business hours or submit a letter of intent to the Board of Selectmen.
