Police and ambulance personnel were called to a home on Whitney Road Saturday, Jan. 1, at 10:44 p.m. in response to a 911 call from someone at the residence reporting an assault in progress. According to police Sergeant John Coates, police arrested John J. Fitzsimmons, 43, and charged him with attempted murder, aggravated assault and battery, domestic assault and battery, possession of a firearm without a license, improper storage of a firearm, and violation of a restraining order. The victim refused ambulance transport to the hospital.
Fitzsimmons was held on $15,000 cash bail and later transported to Clinton District Court, where he was still in custody as of Tuesday. According to the Clerk Magistrate’s office, the pretrial hearing for Fitzsimmons is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 24.
