I want to thank all those in Harvard who voted for me to be your state representative. My family and I are so grateful for the many new friends we made along the campaign trail this past year. We will cherish these friendships long into the future.
I especially want to thank those volunteers who talked with neighbors, made phone calls, held a sign, attended events, or contributed financially to my campaign. Thank you for standing up and working so hard on my behalf! Please stay involved and help hold your elected leaders accountable for taking action that focuses on job creation, provides support for our towns, and demonstrates careful stewardship of the tax dollars provided by the hard-working families of Massachusetts.
While I did not produce the result you all worked so hard for in my race, we can’t lose sight of the fact that there were gains. Most incumbents faced tough opposition, and several were unseated by challengers. When surviving incumbents sit down in the Massachusetts House chamber in early January, they will notice that the voters replaced several of their incumbent colleagues. Newly elected freshmen representatives should have a positive impact when it comes time for incumbents to take votes on important legislation in 2011-2012: legislation that makes Massachusetts a place where small businesses can thrive and create jobs, addresses a $2.5 billion budget deficit, and makes much-needed reforms to our unsustainable pension and health-care systems.
As I said often during the campaign, we are all in this together and we have tremendous challenges to face in the next session. I truly wish all 2011 elected leaders in the State House well as they work for a more prosperous future for our commonwealth.
