Longtime resident, former police reserve officer

Harold O. (Woody) Woodsum, 72, of Warren Ave. died Aug. 12, 2010, after a short illness and a 30-year battle with heart disease.
Harold was born in South Portland, Maine, April 16, 1938. He moved to Harvard in 1953 and attended the Bromfield School. He served his country in the Army National Guard after joining at the age of 17 with a note from his mother.
He graduated from Bromfield in 1957 and started a long list of jobs, including mowing grass in the summer around the guardrails on Route 2 and working at Hermann’s Orchards (now Westward Orchards), Chu Associates, Feltus Pontiac, and the Harvard Police Department, where he served as a reserve officer. He also worked at Atlantic Microwave, GTE Sylvania, Carlson Orchards, and Littleton Lumber.
Harold was predeceased by his father, Harold F. (Woody) Woodsum, and his mother, Dorothy Butler Woodsum. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nancy Jean Lozier Woodsum; a sister, Deanna Woodsum Meserve and her husband, Paul, of Maine; his son, David Scott (Woody) Woodsum and his wife, Janet Elizabeth Hathaway Woodsum; his grandchildren, Joseph Allen Woodsum and Jennifer Elizabeth Woodsum of Harvard; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be private. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Harvard Firefighters Assoc., 13 Ayer Road, Harvard, MA 01451.
