Fourth of July Celebration
Harvard’s annual Fourth of July fireworks and concert will take place Friday, July 2, at Fruitlands Museum. (The rain date will be Monday, July 5.) The concert will begin at 5 p.m. and the fireworks at 9 p.m. Cost for parking is $10; all proceeds help fund Fourth of July activities.
The annual 5-mile road race will start off the rest of the festivities Saturday, July 3, at 8:15 a.m. at the Bromfield School. Bike decoration and judging on the Common starts at 10 a.m. The Fourth of July parade kicks off at 11 a.m. starting at Depot Road, and will be followed by field events at the Bromfield School fields.
Summer Hours at the Library
The Harvard Public Library will open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays during June, July, and August. Scheduled hours of operation on all other days will remain unchanged. The library will be closed Saturday, July 3, and Monday, July 5, for the Independence Day holiday.
Orchard Solar Array Tours
Carlson Orchards will offer its last free public tour of its in-progress solar array installation Friday, July 2, at 5 p.m. The tour, lasting about an hour, will start from the Carlson retail store at 115 Oak Hill Road and will show the arrays in various stages of installation.
Allard Family Concert
Peter and Ellen Allard will present a family concert for children ages 2 to 8 Wednesday, July 7, from 3 to 3:45 p.m. at the Harvard Public Library. The Allards have released seven recordings and three song books, and have won many awards, including two Parents’ Choice, a Parent’s Guide, and six Children’s Music Web Awards. Bird Walks at Fruitlands
Fruitlands Museum and the Brookline Bird Club will sponsor summer bird walks led by local birder Pat White Saturday, July 10, at 6:30 a.m. and Saturday, July 24, at 7 a.m. beginning at the top parking lot at Fruitlands Museum. The walk will cover about two miles on trails through meadow and woods with some steep sections. Bring binoculars and insect repellent. Tattoos and Shortcake
Caleb Butler Lodge and the Ayer Masonic Association will hold their annual fundraiser Saturday, July 3, at the Ayer Fourth of July celebration at Perone Park in Ayer. Along with strawberry shortcake and lunch items, the concession will feature temporary tattoos by Mr. Josh.
Summer Concert Series in Worcester
Charter Communications, partnering with the City of Worcester and the Worcester Cultural Coalition, will present the 2010 Out to Lunch summer concert series every Friday from July 9 through Aug. 27 at Worcester Common, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The series will include food offerings as well as artisans and crafters and a farmers’ market. Minute Man Air Field Open House
Minute Man Air Field will hold an open house Saturday, July 10, (rain date July 11) at the air field at 302 Boxborough Road in Stow to celebrate its 41st anniversary. The celebration will begin with a hot-air balloon launch at 6 a.m., followed by festivities beginning at 9 a.m. Planned activities include free airplane rides for children ages 8 to 17, scenic air rides, aviation displays, and more.
Basketball Camp
New England Hoops Summer Basketball will take place Monday, July 12, to Friday, July 16, from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. at Atlantic Union College, 103 George Hill Road in South Lancaster. Registration is first-come, first-served by contacting Coach Sandy Smith at 978-368-2146 or sandy.smith@auc.edu.
Worcester Chamber Music Festival
The Worcester Chamber Music Society (WCMS) Summer Festival will run from July 12 to 16 and July 19 to 23 at Anna Maria College in Worcester. Public concerts will be offered Tuesday, July 13, Thursday, July 15, Tuesday, July 20, and Thursday July 22, at 8 p.m. in Miriam Hall at Anna Maria College. Arts for the Animals
The Worcester Animal Rescue League (WARL) will sponsor Arts for the Animals show and sale, Saturday, July 17, noon to 5 p.m. at WARL, 139 Holden St. in Worcester. Rain date is Saturday, July 24. The event will showcase fine artists and crafters. Funds raised from artist participation will directly support the programs and services at WARL. Admission is free. Drama Camp
Applewild Summer Camp will host two drama programs, Stare and Share, a program for students in grade 3 through 5, and In the Painting for sixth- through ninth-graders, July 26 to Aug. 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at 120 Prospect St. in Fitchburg. The programs will include a stage combat workshop on Aug. 3.
