Committee hears school improvement plans

The School Committee listened to the presentation of school improvement plans from principals Mary Beth Banios and Jim O’Shea for the 2010-11 school year. Each principal presented a range of goals linked to the school district’s Strategic Plan. At both the elementary and secondary levels, goals included an emphasis on critical thinking skills, core content, and meeting the needs of all learners through differentiated instruction. At the Bromfield School, one goal focused on preparation for the upcoming accreditation study by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).

Real-time weather coming to classrooms

Fourth-grade teachers Kathy Kittredge and Donna Piche announced that science classes will soon be able to use the WeatherBug program to get real-time weather information for web-based lessons on classroom Smartboards. The Harvard Schools Trust provided funding that allowed the teachers to write a grant application to pay for the program.
