Board of Selectmen will strategize June 8
As previously reported, the Board of Selectmen (BOS) will hold its annual strategy meeting on June 8 at 4 p.m. in the main meeting room of the old library, where they will discuss their goals for the coming years. Traditionally “no motions and no actions” are taken at the meeting so the time can be spent in freewheeling discussion rather than debate. But the board does expect to spend some of its time hashing out a charter for the Economic Development Committee approved by Town Meeting in May, as well as for the new BOS-appointed Devens Economic Analysis Team (DEAT) to be headed by Steve Finnegan. Last year, in a strategy meeting that lasted until 10 p.m., the board created a list of goals that eventually was reduced to 12, and which the Press tracked with its “Scorecard” column through May.
Transfer station to get new paving
At its May 25 meeting the BOS unanimously approved plans by Department of Public Works Director Rich Nota to pave the unpaved areas of the transfer station this summer, using excess department funds. Areas next to the trash compactors will be fully paved flush with their bases, while areas on the lower level of the station will get one layer of paving this year and a final layer in 2011. Tim Clark, who is the BOS liaison to the DPW, noted that the Boy Scouts will build a new shed for collecting recyclable bottles that will be located nearer to the lower level compactors.
Minar replaces Horowitz on Historical Commission
The selectmen have accepted the resignation of Lyn Horowitz from the town’s Historical Commission. Her term, which would have expired in June 2011, will be taken up by previously appointed alternate member Rudy Minar.
Cable Committee says, ‘Take a look’
At the May 25 BOS meeting, Cable Committee member Brint Ferguson urged the selectmen and town residents to “take a look” at Channels 12 and 13. The channels have a fresh face, he reported, with Channel 12 devoted to public hearings and Channel 13 to programs of general interest. “We just want everyone to watch,” he said.
