Artists of the Month
Sue Barber’s Bauernmalerie and Schiesscheiben German folk art painted works are featured this month in the For Art’s Sake Live Gallery at the General Store. This month’s For Art’s Sake’s website features the work of studio furniture maker Peter Shepard along with a video describing his process. Orchard Solar Array Tours
Carlson Orchards will offer free public tours of its in-progress solar array installation Friday, June 18, at noon, Friday, June 25, at noon, and Friday, July 2, at 5 p.m.. The tours, lasting about an hour, will start from the Carlson retail store at 115 Oak Hill Road and will show the arrays in various stages of installation.
Strawberries-and-Champagne Open House at Fruitlands
Fruitlands Museum invites residents to enjoy the sunset at a Strawberries-and-Champagne Open House Sunday, June 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the museum. The free event is Fruitlands’ annual signature event to thank friends and neighbors.
Devens Golf Tournament
The Fatherhood Classic Golf Tournament will take place Monday, June 21, at Red Tail Golf Club, 15 Bulge Road in Devens. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m.; tournament starts at 9 a.m. The tournament will raise funds for the Fatherhood Initiative and other programs to support families and prevent child abuse in Massachusetts. A discount fee is available for parent-child registration. Visit www.mctf.org/golf for more information. Children’s Trust Fund leads statewide efforts to prevent child abuse and neglect. In local communities, CTF funds Healthy Families Massachusetts newborn home-visiting program and several parenting education and support groups.
Summer Reading Ice Cream Social
The Harvard Public Library will kickoff its Summer Reading Program with an Ice Cream Social Tuesday, June 22, at 3 p.m. at the library. Make your own sundaes, socialize with friends, and enjoy face-painting, paper-airplane-making, sidewalk chalk art, and bubble-blowing. Volunteers are needed to help with activities and are asked to sign up to volunteer in the Children’s Room. Rain dates are Wednesday, June 23, and Thursday, June 24. In keeping with this summer’s theme of “Go Green At Your Library,” Ice Cream Social attendees are encouraged to bring their own nondisposable bowls, cups, and spoons. As in the past, the library will also provide disposable bowls, cups and spoons. Attendees should preregister by calling the Children’s Room at 978-456-2381.
Nature Journaling
Author, artist, and naturalist Clare Walker Leslie will guide a field sketching workshop Saturday, June 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fruitlands Museum. Leslie, author of The Art of Field Sketching, will share hands-on tips, tricks, and simple tools for drawing. No art experience is necessary. Bring a field guide, binoculars, and drawing tools. The program will be indoors and out. Ages 10 and older are welcome, as are family groups, homeschoolers, educators, and nature lovers. Cost is $30 for members, $60 for nonmembers, and $20 for children (10-14). Children must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required; call 978-456-3924.
Concerts at Fruitlands
Conductor James O’Dell will, for his second season, lead a summer lineup of concerts at Fruitlands Museum starting June 28 and running through July 28. Concerts will feature classical music, show tunes, pops, and ever-popular marches. Performances take place every Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. All concerts have a Thursday rain date. Museum grounds are open for picnicking at 5:30 p.m. Admission is $10 per carload for nonmembers; members are admitted free.

Peter Dreyer at Dunia Gallery
The Gallery at Dunia will present Spatial Rhythms, an exhibit of photographs and photograms by Peter Dreyer, June 14 through August 21. An artist reception will be held Sunday, June 20, from 2 to 5 p.m. Dreyer, a visual artist based in Westwood, creates black-and-white compositions that show geometric patterns that yield sensations different when viewed up close or from a distance. Fifteen percent of the sales proceeds from Spatial Rhythms artwork will be donated to Mass Audubon. Dunia is located at 43 Nason St. in downtown Maynard and is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Well-Adult Clinic
Nashoba Associated Boards of Health and D’Ambrosio Eye Care will hold a Well-Adult Clinic Wednesday, June 23, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Carlin’s Restaurant, 48 Main St. in Ayer. Basketball Camp
New England Hoops Summer Basketball will take place Monday, July 12, to Friday, July 16, from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. at Atlantic Union College, 103 George Hill Road in South Lancaster. Hoops is designed for boys and girls ages 10 to 16 to develop their basketball skills. Trophies and awards will be presented at the end of camp. Drama Camp
Applewild Summer Camp will host two drama programs, “Stare and Share,” a program for students in grade 3 through 5, and “In the Painting” for sixth- through ninth-graders, July 26 to August 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at 120 Prospect St. in Fitchburg. The programs will include a stage combat workshop on August 3.
