Board makes appointments

The board discussed individual board member assignments for representation on other town boards. After a short and unanimous vote they decided on the following appointments:

  • Master Plan Implementation Committee—Joe Sudol
  • Montachusett Regional Planning Commission—Michelle Catalina
  • Montachusett Joint Transportation Committee—Craig Bardenheuer
  • Community Preservation Committee—Joe Sudol
  • Open Space & Recreation Plan Implementation Committee—Wayne McFarland

Bylaw brainstorming

The board opened a discussion regarding goals and action items relating to the 2011 Annual Town Meeting and the update to the town’s Master Plan. Chairman Joe Sudol asked the board to “start thinking of items [you’d] like to see presented as bylaws.” He stated, “At this time the only thing I am thinking about addressing would be a bylaw relating to grocery stores in Harvard.” Specifically, he was referencing the Ayer Road Special Permit. He asked the board to review the permit and be prepared to continue the discussion at future meetings. Board member Craig Bardenheuer agreed this would be a good idea and said that they should “focus on fixing any zoning discontinuities.”

Thinking ahead to the Master Plan

The board is compiling a list relating to the town’s Master Plan, which by state law must be updated every 10 years. The board will be examining issues such as whether or not to bring in an outside consultant for help, asking for money from the town for the consultant, and whether they need to change the direction of their goals based on updates from the census demographics.
