Committee welcomes new cameraman
Looking forward to the next major event, the high school graduation on June 4, the Cable Committee welcomed two new cameramen, Ben Jackson, a sophomore from Marlborough, and Leo Perro, a freshman from the Bromfield School. Bromfield senior Casey Clark, another committee member, will be working with Perro to get him up to speed in time for the graduation, as three cameras will be needed for the event.
ATM reviewed
Reviewing “old business,” Chairwoman Pat Natoli congratulated the team members on their coverage of Annual Town Meeting. She said that many compliments had been received that evening for the professional look, with matching shirts and hats to identify the camera crew. Natoli added that she had heard comments in the past indicating that when cable cameramen were on scene to shoot, no one knew who they were.
Location identified for new server
A new server is now giving the cable crew the capacity to broadcast programs on channels 12 and 13, with a bulletin board of upcoming programs to be posted on both channels. The server will be housed in the downstairs area of the former library. A possible location next to the filming booth was identified, raising a question about the amount of noise generated by the server when it is running and whether it would be disturbing if any shows were being filmed in its vicinity. Another issue discussed was the consequence of a lack of ventilation or air conditioning, since the server will be generating a fair amount of heat. A decision was reached by consensus that two storage closets will be constructed for the server, one in the Hapgood Room near a window, and the other in the back section of the downstairs area. A trial period will determine the best solution to the server’s needs for a dust-free cool environment and the filmmakers’ need for quiet.
Programming in progress
New material is being acquired for the two town cable channels, 12 and 13. The recently run cooking show was well received, according to Natoli, and more material is being sought. The committee discussed how often a given show would be aired and how to schedule shows to make them convenient for viewers with varying schedules. A suggestion that shows be aired during nighttime hours for the sake of wakeful citizens was offered, and committee members in attendance agreed with the suggestion.
