Committee seeks volunteers to sort out calendar

School Committee members expressed their hope that at least one more community member and another teacher will volunteer for the subcommittee on the school calendar and religious holidays. Two parents of current students, one teacher, one community member, and three students have already stepped forward.

Board votes on Choice students

After prolonged discussion, the School Committee voted 3-1 to accept three School Choice students at the kindergarten level next year. (Committee member Patricia Wenger was absent, and Chairman Keith Cheveralls was opposed.) Only half-day slots will be open to the Choice students. The most recent figures show 53 students enrolled for kindergarten next year, with 11 in the half-day program and 42 in the full-day program. Adding three students to the half-day program would give each section 14 students. Harvard’s class-size guideline for kindergarten is 15 to 18 students.
