A Friday treat

April 2, 2010

What wonderful features in last week’s paper! I was so happy to read the story about Irene Mannix on the front page and the two-page profile of Phyllis Newman—two incredible women. They were feel-good articles, a nice contrast to budgets, Devens, and pond weeds. The issue was especially enjoyable because of the spotlight on four noteworthy Harvard citizens—Irene, Phyllis, Phil, and Ashley. Thank you very much for these outstanding contributions. The Harvard Press will always be my Friday treat.

I visited Irene before her Sunday departure for Scotland. She was spunky, sharp, and stylish in her black pantsuit accented with a bright orange shirt. She “held court” with her visitors in grand style, talking up a storm while carbo loading on pasta for the long flight. Amazing woman, that Irene! The Press was also on the plane to share with her daughter, grandchildren, and new friends who eagerly awaited her arrival.
