In reference to the letter from Alcon Chadwick in the Jan. 8 issue of the Press, I, and I’m sure every other senior citizen of Harvard, would agree that people over 80, having paid their way so far and living on fixed incomes, should be exempt from increased property taxes and any other increased tax—like the possibility of having to pay for permits to burn.
It was purely coincidental, but while looking out the window at the snow and thinking about burning brush, etc. I turned to our local cable TV station to see if there would be a mention about when we can burn again, and what did I see? Our selectmen talking about charging us for burning permits!
I would be only too glad to pay for a burning permit if the selectmen come to my house and burn my brush for me.
