Former longtime Harvard resident; owned Century 21 office

Helen R. Minich, 89, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family after an eight-month battle with cancer.
Helen was born in Redbank, Penn., and graduated from Hawthorne High School, where she met her husband, Victor C. Minich. She enjoyed traveling with him during his 30-year Air Force career, which took them and their children to live in five states and Bermuda and Germany. They lived in Bedford since 1995 and several times previously, from 1953 to 1959 and 1962 to 1972.
Helen worked in the town of Lexington’s comptroller’s office for 20 years until her retirement in 1985. They also lived in Harvard for 25 years, where they owned Century 21 V.C. Minich, Inc. Real Estate, and Helen had an antique shop and did antique shows in the area.
Helen was an accomplished painter, and was known for her beautiful gardens and her cooking and homemaking skills. For the last 13 years while living in Bedford, she was active in the First Church of Christ Congregational, the Bedford Woman’s Club, and the Garden Club. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure to know her.
She is survived by her children, Victor C. Minich Jr. and his wife Dorothy of Davidsonville, Md.; Sally K. Smith and her husband Richard of Harwich Port, Mass.; five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased in 1999 by Vic, her loving husband of 59 years.
A funeral service was held at the First Church of Christ Congregational in Bedford Jan. 11. Interment will be in the Shawsheen Cemetery in Bedford.
