Former longtime Harvard resident, electronics engineer

Adrian C. Whitten, 82, formerly of Harvard and a Lancaster resident for the past three years, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010 at the Genesis Westford House in Westford. He was the beloved husband of 60 years of Doris R. (Burritt) Whitten.

Born and raised in Corning, N.Y., he was the son of the late Henry and Catherine (Barrett) Whitten. Mr. Whitten graduated from the Corning schools and attended Syracuse University. An electronics engineer, later in his career he specialized in the marketing aspect of the industry. The Whitten family moved from New York to Sudbury, Mass. in 1960, and settled in Harvard in 1964.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Whitten is survived by five children, Michael, Henry, Melissa and Patience Whitten, all of Massachusetts, and Jeremiah Whitten of Minnesota; a grandson, Justin Whitten of Minnesota; a brother, David Whitten of Alabama; a niece and nephew, Valerie Dell and her children Christopher and Rachel, and David Whitten Jr., all of the Corning, N.Y. area.

A memorial Mass was held Monday, Jan. 11, at St. Theresa’s Church, Holy Trinity Parish. Interment will be at a later date. Those who wish can make memorial contributions in Mr. Whitten’s name to the charity of their choice.
