Election to be held in Bromfield gym
The special state primary and the special town election will be held Tuesday, Dec. 8, in the Bromfield gym. Because school will be in session all day, voters are asked to enter the building through the Cronin Auditorium lobby area to help minimize school disruption.
Fire chief holds forum to review the December 2008 ice storm
Harvard Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director Bob Mignard invites the public to the Bromfield cafeteria Thursday, Dec. 10, at 7 p.m., for a one-year anniversary discussion and review of “the ice storm.” The chief will give a perspective of what it took to successfully cope with the myriad aspects of the storm, and invites the public to weigh in on their experience, with a particular focus on these questions: Did you get what you needed? What did you need that you did not get? What did you get that you didn’t need?
Information packets will be available to assist residents with their disaster and emergency planning efforts. Light refreshments will be available.
Town Center Wastewater Policy Committee seeks volunteers
Two positions are open on the Town Center Wastewater Policy Committee for residents living outside the town center district. Interested candidates should complete the volunteer form on the town website and submit it to the selectmen’s office by Dec. 10. Appointments will be made at the Dec. 15 Board of Selectmen meeting.
Holiday Mail for Heroes gets holiday greetings to service members
The Holiday Mail for Heroes program, run by the American Red Cross, offers an opportunity for people to share joy and thanks with service members throughout the holiday season by way of a greeting card. The program has an extensive process to ensure all cards sent to service members are safe and arrive in time for the holidays. Holiday cards will be collected through a designated P.O. box address until Dec. 7.
Every card received will be screened for hazardous materials and distributed to participating Red Cross chapters nationwide. At the Red Cross chapters, cards will be sorted and reviewed by volunteers who then distribute them to service members, their families, and veterans in communities across the country.
To participate, sign cards (but do not include a personal address) and send them to: Holiday Mail for Heroes, P.O. Box 5456, Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456.
Toys for Tots seeks donations
The U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program, which was started in 1947, continues its mission to collect new, unwrapped toys and distribute them as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community. Toys are needed for infants and children up to age 18. Local drop-off locations for toys include:

- Harvard Police Department, 40 Ayer Road
- The General Store, 1 Still River Road
Deadline to make donations is Dec. 18.
Devens issues range-noise bulletin
Devens has issued a notice marking the following upcoming military activities that will result in increased noise from Devens:
